Dark Ale + Bavarian Munich malt + corn syrup = yummy beer

This is the beer base I used for this batch of beer. I added some hops, malt, and away we go. I have 6 more days of fermentation, then I'll bottle, finally 2 weeks later I'll get to chill it and enjoy.

The 1st Batch is AWESOME!

I enjoyed making, partaking, and sharing my first batch. The first batch was a light lager. It's time to start batch 2. This 2nd batch is going to be a dark ale and my base is going to be syrup instead of plain sugar. I have a few more steps to perform on this batch than the last batch. The new bottles are going to be great too. I have some that I'll cap and some that ceramic cages. I cannot wait. Now off to Bed, Bath, & Beyond for a 3 gallon pot to boil in.

Cracked open my first home brewed beer

I just bottled 30 175 liter bottles of my first home brew which is equivalent to 60 bottles US sized. I'm excited! 2 weeks of aging and then I can test it out.

My first home brew

I'm pretty excited to try out home brewing. This is the Cooper home brew kit that I started @ 10 a.m. Today 12/26/09. In about a week I'll get to bottle these and then 2 weeks later I'll be enjoying my own home brew.

Best Pour Ever

I think I did pretty darn good with this pour!!! It tasted so good too. I used the Brutul turtle to make the Black & Blue or Dark Side of the Moon (2 names I know for this drink).The little turtle gadget is actually really sweet. It makes it super easy to create the multi layer drinks. It does take a little practice, but I've not yet found an easier tool for use to pour the layers.

Gateway to Betty Ford

Maybe I'm growing. I just don't know. Maybe my laptop really is a lush. I just don't know. Not too long ago, I was drinking a cup of coffee. It was a Friday morning. I was sitting with my laptop on the arm of the chair, my cat on my lap, and reached for my coffee. My laptop reached right out and took a huge sip. I was appalled. My laptop has snagged a sip of my water before. Then the horror! The sheer horror. Friday. It was 5 a.m. My laptop clearly had a problem, but I hadn't recognized it in time. One split second, and down the hatch. That double shot of Goldschlagger was more than my little laptop could handle. That Gateway was down for the count. 10. . . no vital signs. . . 9 . . . no pulse . . . 8 . . . now the keys are sticking. . . 7 . . . oh no! . . . 6 . . . the internal sound continues to beep. . . 5 . . . We've declared a winner!

And the Gateway stopped in to see Betty Ford. Please people, don't let your laptops have access to alcohol. Well, my Gateway checked itself out of the clinic and is on it's way to the gutter. I tried to help it. Jess tried to help it. Now, all that is left is a shell of the old laptop. My little laptop served me well. Good luck. G-d's speed. And I'll miss you.

Organic Beer

Last evening while shopping at Whole Foods, I got a wild hair and decided to try an organic beer. I've not ever had an organic before, or not one that I recall. Pinkus Organic Hefe-Weizen is the beer I chose. This beer is from Munster, Germany. It seemed a bit like Blue Moon without the citrus flavor. I thought it was rather mild and didn't have a bad after taste. The beer was not as full or thick as Blue Moon. And I'm not trying to say that these beers should be identical. I am doing a comparison based on some of the beers I've tried.

I was expecting this beer to be completely weird. Maybe the USDA Organic label at the top was screaming "HIPPEE" to me. So I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely buy this beer again for a light mid afternoon brew.
There are plenty of blogs out there that will help define more indepth what it means to be a USDA Organic certified beer and all the rigorous guidelines Organic Breweries must follow. Do a google search on Pinkus beer and you'll get a really good start of information to point you towards all the answers on organic beer.
